Daniel Paille of the Rochester Americans entered the AHL Chat Room to talk about the the Amerks hot start to the 2006-07 season and his experiences with the Buffalo Sabres.

Do you have any pre-game rituals that you do before you take the ice for a game or any odd superstitions that you do before a game? -- Sara from West Seneca, N.Y.

Not really, I got one superstition really, I don't take pre-game naps or anything like that, I try to relax myself by watching tv, usually with someone else. I do try to get a hot chocolate at a Starbucks before every game or get to a Tim Hortons, that would be my only thing.

So who else is really impressed with the team this year so far? And Anderson, AWESOME! I'm REALLY impressed with him!

And scoreeeee. Mark Mancari scored the first real goal of the season (not counting pre-season).

Alright, so I was looking at the Amerks website, and found that 22 players have qualifying offers...other players don't, and then signed players for next season....

Here's the article:
The Buffalo Sabres announced today that the team has extended qualifying offers to 22 restricted free agents.
Players have until July 5th to either accept the qualifying offer or elect for arbitration.

Offers were extended to:
Maxim Afinogenov
Daniel Briere
Martin Biron
Brian Campbell
Tim Connolly
J.P. Dumont
Paul Gaustad
Jeff Jillson
Dmitri Kalinin
Ales Kotalik
Toni Lydman
Adam Mair
Ryan Miller
Jiri Novotny
Nathan Paetsch
Andrew Peters
Jason Pominville
Taylor Pyatt
Derek Roy
Michael Ryan
Henrik Tallinder
Chris Thorburn

Only forward Sean McMorrow and goalie Michael Leighton were not qualified. Both now become unrestricted free agents.

Other unrestricted free agents include:
David Cullen
Rory Fitzpatrick
Mike Grier
Doug Janik
Jay McKee
Teppo Numminen
Chris Taylor

Players signed for next season are Michael Card, Chris Drury, Michael Funk, Jochen Hecht, Dylan Hunter, Patrick Kaleta, Clarke MacArthur, Mark Mancari, Drew Stafford and Thomas Vanek.

Now what are qualifying offers? And when they say that players are signed for next season, does that mean they have a contract for Buffalo, or in Clarke MacArthurs and Mark Mancari's case for the Amerks? Or what? I'm soooo confused! Don't forget this is my first year really watching hockey...

Thanks for anyone's help!

Hello. I am new to this community. My name is Chrystal, and I'm a huge Amerks fan. My first Amerks game was this past season on November 23, 2005 against the Binghamton Senators, and ever since that game, I have been a HOOKED fan.

My favorite player is Mark Mancari (26). I have met almost the whole team, but it's hard to meet the whole team when I only went to about 8 games the whole season. My intension for next season is to get a picture and autograph from every player. If you would like to see pictures of the Amerks that I have gotten pictures with, let me know and I can post them :-).

Uhm, just to let you know, if any of you are myspace users, their are currently 3-4 players who have myspace accounts, but all are fake. I talked to each one about them.

<3 always

Buffalo and Florida back

The Amerks and Sabres have signed a one-year extension to remain affiliated. Next season will mark the 28th year that Rochester and Buffalo have an affiliation, which I believe is the longest partnership in the NHL/AHL right now. It was also announced yesterday that the Florida Panthers will again partner up with Buffalo next season to stock the Amerks roster.

Amerks lost to Toronto on Wednesday, meaning that the Marlies clinched the final spot in the North Division semifinals and Rochester will not make the playoffs for the first time in seventeen years, ending the longest playoff streak in franchise history.

Does anybody else think that this season's futility was caused by Buffalo calling up almost all of the Amerks' talent and/or Florida not having the best prospects in their system?

Hello all....
I am new here, and wanted to introduce myself. I am Heathyr, 32, and a displaced western NY'er living in NW Ohio. I have been an Amerks fan since I was a small kid. I don't get to see them anymore, of course, living in Ohio, but I try to keep up with how they're doing. I am looking forward to making some new friends with fellow Amerks fans here!!!

Not going without a fight

The Amerks have impressed me over the past 48 hours with two wins over Syracuse. On Friday, a 9-4 win at the BCA with hat tricks by Chris Taylor and Michael Ryan, and four assists by Clarke MacArthur of all people. Last night, they defeated the Crunch in a shootout, 3-2 with goals by MacArthur, Rob Globke, and two by Michael Ryan in the shootout.

They are still alive, trailing Toronto by 12 points with six games to play.

A playoff spot seems very unlikely at this point. After tonight's game against Milwaukee, Rochester will only have eight games remaining and they currently have 68 points, while Toronto has 83. It looks like the only battle now is to hold off Hamilton for the fifth spot in the North Division standings.

The last time the Amerks missed the playoffs was back in 1988-89 with John Van Boxmeer as the coach. The bright side is that the Amerks would reach the Calder Cup Finals in three of the next four seasons.
